8. The Clothing Bank
Who Are They?
The Clothing Bank trains and supports unemployed South Africans to launch micro enterprises so that they can eradicate poverty in their families. Unemployed South Africans are offered an alternative to formal employment through an extensive two-year training and development programme which equips them to become self-employed business owners.
The Endowment’s support enables The Clothing Bank to grow two of its projects:
– The Clothing Bank partners with clothing retailers who donate excess clothing to support unemployed women to sell the clothes in their local communities
– The Appliance Bank uses donated electrical appliances to support unemployed men to repair and sell the appliances in their local communities
